Standing for the community that shaped me

For many months I have been working hard to win the support of voters across the constituency and as we now edge to just days from the election  this Thursday there will be not let up in the campaign to win your trust.

Standing for the community that shaped me

I'm standing for the community that shaped me and it would be an absolute privilege to serve this community.

I know, like me, the NHS matters to you. The NHS has been there for my family in times of need - I will always stand up for those who provide our services and speak out for those who use them. In North Wales we now spend more per person on health and social care than in England – yes, our NHS is under pressure not least because of Tory cuts to Wales but Welsh Labour has refused to follow the UK Government’s failed top-down multi-billion pound reorganisation. We’ll also oppose Plaid Cymru’s plan to cause chaos through mass re-organisation and instead we’ll create an £80m new treatment fund to help people here access drugs for rare and life threatening illnesses and conditions first.

The ongoing Junior Doctors’ strike isn’t happening here in Wales because the Welsh Labour Government works in partnership. Whilst Welsh Labour introduced and will protect free prescriptions in Wales, the Conservatives will scrap free prescriptions – they now cost £8.40 just over the border in England.

I am proud to have played my part in achieving a living wage for NHS workers in Wales, the only place in the UK – I made the NHS work well for them, I’ll make sure it works well for us.

From North Wales, for North Wales

As AM, I will not only fight for our constituency but also for our corner of North Wales - I was proud to host the launch of the Welsh Labour pledges for North Wales right here in Delyn. Welsh Labour will invest more than £240m to improve the A55, A494 and A483 – I know first-hand just how frustrating congestion on our roads can be and really recognise the need to make our major routes fit for the future.

Our infrastructure and the success of our economy go hand in hand, that’s why Welsh Labour will create a North Wales metro consisting of integrated transport and ticketing that will include direct and regular services with key hubs and employment bases across North Wales and the North West of England, ensuring that we’re real powerhouse partners.

I will make sure this happens and more.

Proud of our past, will fight for our future

My politics and values were shaped by growing up in Flintshire during the 1980s and the Conservative decimation of our industrial heritage that cast a long, dark shadow over our area. I’ve seen our industry begin to rise from the ashes of the ‘80s, working with major employers such as Airbus and TATA – there’s a bright future for Shotton Steel and they’ll have my support every step of the way.

I’m proud of our past but will fight for our future.

A diversity of decent, skilled jobs will be top of my agenda as Assembly Member. Whilst some may look to move away from home to find work, I want Flintshire to provide the quality jobs and opportunities closer to home to ensure people have the choice. Welsh Labour’s commitment to 100,000 new all age apprenticeships and employability scheme will go some way to fulfilling this but I have the background and experience to go further to drive greater investment and opportunities to our area.

There’s much more hard work to come to make this happen but I’ve the energy and ambition to make the difference for Delyn. I hope you can put your trust in me this Thursday May 5th

It would be an honour to be our Assembly Member.
